INLE |
|
Inle
situated in Shan State in the eastern Myanmar, 900
metres above sea level, is one of the main tourist
attractions in Myanmar. The lake, 20km long and 10km
wide, natural and unpolluted, is famous for its
scenic beauty and the habitants namely "Intha"
paddling with their legs. The Intha means the son of
the lake, who lives on floating islands of
vegetation. They live in houses built on the water
and grow their vegetables on the mated silt and weed
floating beds, the secure to the lake bottom with
bamboo poles. Travelling in Inlay Lake is a
dreamlike adventure criss-crossing the lake on their
way to the market or to the pagoda in their unique
style of rowing which can be only seen in this area.

PHAUNG DAW U PAGODA |

Phaung
Daw U is one of the most popular shrines in Myanmar.
This pagoda houses five small Buddha images whose
original forms have long since been lost under years
of plastering with gold leaf by pilgrims. Once a
year, at the full moon day of Thadingyut
(September/October), there is an elaborate festival,
during which the Buddha images are rowed around the
lake to visit outlying pagodas. They are conveyed in
a magnificent copy of a royal barge shaped like a
golden swan.

Nga Phe Chaung Monastery |

Nga
Phe Chaung is a large many-sided wooden building.
This floating monastery is over 170 years old and it
is the most ancient among all the monasteries on
Inlay Lake well noted for its huge Buddha images.
Now that the water level has dropped so
dramatically, the monastery is surrounded by the
vegetation and is practically on dry land. The
pleasing large interior space remains intact, with
the wide, polished teak boards. The cats of this
monastery are popular by jumping through hoops, so
this monastery is also popularly known as the
"Jumping Cats Monastery".

YWA MA |

Ywama
is the biggest village built on the lake. Its teak
houses are apparently beautiful and they are
constructed on large wooden poles driven directly
into the bottom of the lake. The main activity and
attraction is at the floating market in the largest
canal. You can visit the goldsmith workshops,
observe the sculpture and umbrella industries.

Thauk Market is a large and bustling market where
you can see a real local environment. This market is
open after every 5 days. (Floating market)

TAUNGGYI |
|
Taunggyi
is located in the southern Shan State and is the
capital town of Shan States. It is 1400 metres above
the sea level and has a moderate climate. Taunggyi,
a splendid cool, pine clad natural resort is the
largest state in Myanmar. Taunggyi Tazaungdine
(Balloon festival) festival is very famous in
Myanmar.

KALAW |
|
Kalaw
is situated 71 km west of Taunggyi, the favorite of
the old British hill stations, a picturesque small
town surrounded by pine forests. Kalaw places of
interest are Thein Taung Pagoda, Aung Chan Tha
Pagoda, Su Taung Pyae Pagoda and the King Church.

KUKKU PAGODA |
|
Kukku
pagoda is very wonderful place & located 39 km in
south of Taunggyi. A 16 century pagoda complex
knowns as Mwe Daw Kakku is 306 metres in length and
150 metres in width, Over 2000 pagodas are clustered
in a small valley, surrounded by thick wood and lush
meadows. The Kakku pagoda festival is usually held
during the fullmoon day of Tabaung (March). Kekku
has been the center of the worship for the Pa-O
people.

PINDAYA CAVE |

Pindaya
cave is located about 1.61 km southwest of the town.
Pindaya cave is famous for limestone caves, over
looking a lake the caves House Thousands of Buddha
images. The caves are supposed to be 200,00 million
years old and since ancient times they have been
places of worship and veneration with 8,094 Buddha
images made from various materials like teak wood,
marble, alabaster, brick, cement and lacquer, and
all enshrined in the nooks and corners of the
winding caverns. At the entrance to the main cave
tree is a pagoda 50 feet in height. This pagoda is
called Shwe U-min pagoda or the Golden Cave pagoda.
It is and interesting experience to visit Pindaya
and Pindaya caves. Pindaya is beautiful with small
Bottalote Lake in the centre of the town.
